Lower School (Grades K-5)

Kindergarten-5th grade students at Miami Valley Christian Academy experience the joy of Christ-centered learning and excelling academically while developing a passion for life-long learning.

In the course of a day, your child will learn from loving and professionally educated Christian teachers. With a focus on the well-rounded child, all students explore and develop an appreciation for art, music, PE, computer, phonics, and movement. Band, choir, football, volleyball, basketball, and after-school activities round the day with creativity and choice.

At Miami Valley Christian Academy, we partner with Christ-focused families to raise-up Kingdom children; future leaders of America and the world.

Elementary Education & Grading

Student work at MVCA is constantly being evaluated to assure a high level of learning. Student grades (2nd grade and above) are posted online in Lion Access and parents are encouraged to regularly review these grades along with completed assignments, quizzes, and tests sent home in a weekly folder. MVCA strives to keep parents informed about their child’s progress and experience in the classroom.

After the end of the first and third quarters, parent-teacher conferences are available for all parents wishing to discuss their child’s progress with the teacher. Between conferences, parents are encouraged to email teachers or make an appointment to discuss their child’s progress.

The following grading scales are used in the MVCA Lower School:

K-3rd Grade Grading Scale
E = Student is exceeding, or has mastered grade level expectation.
M = Student is consistently meeting grade level expectation.
D = Student is making minimal progress towards grade level expectation.

4th-5th Grade Grading Scale
A = 90% – 100%
B = 80% – 89.99%
C = 70% – 79.99%
D = 60% – 69.99%
F = 59.99% and below

Differentiated Learning

The fact is that we all learn differently. Differentiated Instruction (also known as differentiated learning or, in education, simply, differentiation) is a framework or philosophy for effective teaching that involves providing different students with different avenues to learning (often in the same classroom) in terms of: acquiring content; processing, constructing, or making sense of ideas; and developing teaching materials and assessment measures so that all students within a classroom can learn effectively, regardless of differences in ability.

At MVCA, the teacher proactively plans and carries out varied approaches to content, process, and product in anticipation of, and response to, student differences in readiness, interest, and learning needs.
